Dinas Head  Saturday 26th June 2021

Fifteen walkers set off from Pwllgwaelod for this 9mile walk around Dinas Head and surrounding area. The gradual climb on the coastpath (450 ft in 1.2 m) to the Trig. point at Dinas Head was rewarded by fine views of the coastline from Fishguard in the West to Cemeas Head in the East. This was followed by a similar decent to Cwm-yr-Eglwys for a coffee stop. Any temptaion to linger very long at this pretty spot was discouraged by a chilly breeze.

The route then followed the coast path to Aber Forest, where it turned inland through woodland to reach a waterfall (marked weir on the map) and then onward through woods and along tracks to reach the open hillside of Mynydd Dinas for a lunch stop. After a little more climbing, it was all downhill to reach the coast at Aber Bach for the final section of coast path back to the start. Along this path, our eagle eyed back marker Jeanette, pointed out the Church on the Rock. The distance makes it difficult to gauge its size. It is in fact tiny and is said to have been constructed by a visiting artist at the turn of the twentieth century and was restored by local fishermen in the 1970s.
