2020-08-15 Llawhaden

The cooler and cloudy weather that greeted the walkers at the start of this walk from Canaston Bridge was a welcome change to the extreme heat that had been with us for a couple of weeks.

Our route took us north along the Landsker Trail, passing through a field of well behaved cows, calfs and a bull along the way. At Llawhaden bridge we left the Landsker Trail and after visiting  St Aidens Church continued along the lane to Holgan. Here we took a pretty path through the woods before climbing  up to Llawhaden Castle which unfortunately remains closed to visitors. 

We returned to Llawhaden Bridge where the wall along the river provided convenient seating for lunch. Light rain prompted the group to don waterproofs for the next stage south to Robeston Wathen, although these were soon packed away before reaching the village. 

We soon reached Canston Woods where we took advantage of the new multi user tracks to reach Blackpool Mill. This was followed by a short section of the Landsker Trail back to the car park. 

In addition to the main group walk, we are also proving details of routes to members who wish to walk independantly. Nigel and Abi did this walk earlier in the day and spotted a Holly Blue Butterfly (Celastrina argiolus) in Llawhaden church yard. Photo below.
