Given the rain and high winds it was a sensible decision to cancel a walk across the Preseli ridge. By Saturday morning however, the forecast was looking a little more optimistic and whilst the wind would remain high, the rain was due to stop and there would be sunny outbreaks during the afternoon.

Those that turned up for the walk were happy with an impromptu arrangement of a 10 mile circular walk of the hills surrounding Mynachlogddu.

The walked started from the carpark at the Waldo Williams monument and took the familiar paths up to Carn Menyn before heading north easterly along the 'Golden Road'. We were fortunate to have the strong winds to our backs. At the end of this ancient trackway we crossed the road and followed the damp muddy bridleway to the next lane. Waterproofs were on again as we were hit by a squall. Once we hit the next lane, we crossed and took the track up to Crugiau Dwy. When the path turned left, we continued on over rough ground to the summit. We next negotiated a number of obstacles before we picked up the bridleway including a stone wall, three barbed wire fences anhd rough and overgrown fields. We stopped for a late lunch and removed waterproofs and were rewarded with some sunshine.

The bridlepath followed the contours on the east side of Foel Dyrch before eventually  emerging back on the lane at Fferm y Capel. After a short stretch on the road we crossed the river and headed up to Coleg Plas Dwbl via the Penralltfach Nature Reserve and an ancient moss covered lane. Plas Dwbl led us to a track and we followed this to Gors Fawr moor. After another 1/2 mile of relatively flat moor walking, we were back at the cars.

We headed to our usual corner at Tafarn Zinc for very civilised refreshments of tea and beer.
